Doctoral Grant University Research Fund (BOF) area of religious history

The Faculty of Arts is seeking to fill the following full-time (100%) vacancy at the Ruusbroec Institute for a Doctoral Grant by the University Research Fund (BOF) in the area of religious history

The international stigmatics group at the Ruusbroec Institute studies the popular response to stigmatics in five European countries (Italy, Spain, France, Germany and Belgium) and is currently looking for a doctoral student to work on the political meaning of these enigmatic figures in the nineteenth and early twentieth century. We thereby perceive stigmatics as ‘cult figures’ – celebrities and (semi-) saints – who could develop into charismatic leaders and function as symbolic figures especially at moments of political and religious uncertainties and tensions.

Applicants are expected to send in their own project proposal of approximately 1-2 pages (preferably on another country than the ones mentioned above).
